In June of
2005 a web camera was installed just outside the boundary of
Yosemite National Park looking
south from the entrance at Tioga Pass across Dana Meadows toward
Kuna Crest. The system records images every five minutes
during daylight hours. Each image is time stamped with the local date and
time. The camera is maintained by the
Climate Research Division (CRD)
at Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
It was installed with the help of Frank Gehrke of the
California Cooperative Snow
Surveys. Each hour one image is sent via modem for display on the CRD
Climate Applications Program
website. The data feed may be interrupted by winter storms
which are notorious for taking out the power and/or the phone lines
at Tioga Pass.
